Term 4, 2023
Term 3 was incredible busy for the grade 6 team. We had a few staffing changes with Mrs Cadman and Mrs Lina leaving on maternity leave and we welcome Mrs Nish to the team for Mrs Cadman in 6CA and familiar faces Mr Hutchins and Miss Parousiatis to 6R.
Term 4 is very exciting and bittersweet for the Year 6’s as they begin their final term at primary school and work towards their Graduation. This term students will be learning about Natural Disasters and will research a natural disaster of their choice to independently complete a project. They will also have an opportunity to participate in a hands-on science incursion to investigate the cause and effect of volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and earthquakes.
With reading, students will be summarising and synthesising both fiction and non-fiction texts. They will continue to complete a novel study during reading groups using the reciprocal reading model. Students will analyse newspaper articles and use these skills to write and publish their own newspaper report. Later in the term, we will have a focus on poetry, with students reading, writing and performing a variety of poetry.
In mathematics, we will explicitly teach and undertake investigations on angles, probability, statistics and number patterns, as well as revising the concepts taught throughout the year.
Our respectful relationships focus this term is ‘help seeking’. Students will learn to identify situations where they need assistance and strategies to help them approach others for help. These skills will not only help the students later in life but assist them with their transition to high school.
The first Friday of the term saw the Year 6 students participate in Gala Day where they played against other local schools for the last time. It was a fantastic day, and we were all very proud of the students’ efforts and displays of sportsmanship.
There are some key dates for our Year 6 students this term which are as follows:
We look forward to what will be an extremely busy term as we prepare to say farewell to our 2023 Year 6 students.
