Term 1, 2024
All of the Year 6 children returned to school in high spirits and eager to learn. There are a number of new faces in Year 6, and we welcome those students and their families to Dandenong North.
In Year 6 this year, we would like to welcome a new team member Miss Wilkes(6W), as well as the familiar faces of Mrs Graham (6KG), Mrs Collins (6C), Mr Gill (6PG), Mrs Colaci and Miss Laurie (6CA).
This term, all Year 6 students will be attending Dandenong High School and Lyndale Secondary College where they will have a tour of both schools and participate in a variety of learning tasks. The purpose of these visits enables students to gain some insight into the day in the life of a secondary school student.
We are all excited with the Year 6 camp which will be in Term 3 this year on Monday 22nd July – Wednesday 24th July. Permission notes will be going out later this term. As there is one camp this year, there are 75 spots available. It is important that students return the note with a deposit to confirm their attendance. The camp experience is designed to build students confidence, community awareness and provide students with positive life experiences. They will participate in a wide range of activities, which include visiting some of Melbourne’s iconic landmarks.
This term students will be developing their political knowledge whilst working on the theme “People Power”. Students will discover how bills are introduce, debated and voted on in the legislative assembly by turning our classroom into a mock parliament and role-play the legislative process.
In Year 6, we promote and encourage at least 20 minutes of nightly reading for all students. The expectation is that student diaries will be signed nightly by parents, and returned to school daily, to indicate that students have read.
Weekly homework will be set with tasks reflecting the current learning in the classroom to consolidate students understanding.
Please contact the class teacher if you have any questions.
We look forward to a very productive term in Year 6!
