Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) at Dandenong North Primary School is an integral tool to enhance quality teaching and improve student learning. The effective use of ICT allows for engaging, exciting and innovative learning experiences that support quality literacy and numeracy lessons.
When required, students access devices which include iPads and netbooks to support their classroom learning. Students are taught when and how to use the devices effectively in support of their learning and digital tools are used selectively in the classroom.
Weekly ICT lessons for students in Years 2 to Year 6 are taken by a specialist teacher who focuses on the development and application of ICT skills which are built upon across year levels. These skills are then integrated into the literacy and numeracy activities within the classroom.
We know that navigating the digital world can be difficult for young people; so we aim to explicitly teach students not just how to use digital tools, but how to interact in an online environment with care and confidence. As it becomes an increasingly important part of students’ lives, we aim to equip students to be competent and responsible users of digital platforms and devices.
