- Children’s main homework activity consists of daily reading to, with, and by parents/caregivers or older siblings.
Before reading parents/caregivers should ask “predicting questions” –helping children to become aware of what might be in the text, based upon the title and pictures.
During reading, parents/caregivers should ask their child questions about the book they are reading – use the key questions starters of What, When, Who, How, Why.
- Practising sight and spelling words for five or ten minutes.
- Reading texts for pleasure – separate to texts sent home for nightly reading.
- Review or reinforce new mathematical knowledge through the use of the online Mathletics Program. (Each child has access to this program.)
