The Library program at Dandenong North Primary School is an exciting feature of the school curriculum. It is aimed at promoting the love of reading, expanding students’ knowledge, gaining accessibility to multimodal texts and resources, developing their understanding of book features and familiarising themselves with the Dewey Decimal System.
Students are actively encouraged to borrow library books on a weekly basis. Students explore reading materials covering a wide range of genres, authors and media to develop their literary, research and communication skills. Students are regularly exposed to new authors, with a special emphasis placed on Australian authors and illustrators.
All students participate in our Library program.
Every year, we hold a ‘Book Fair’, and participate in ‘Book Week’ activities. Year 4 to 6 students enthusiastically join in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge too. The annual Book Week Parade to celebrate books and its creators is a highlight for the whole school community.
